I remember a post from Mr. Mandangi in one of the threads, where in he mentioned, "It is easy to develop villages inustrially than to speed huge sums on cities for infrastructure". Mr. Mandangi may correct me if misquoting him.
That made me ponde for a while on the entire development issue. May be down the lane we all have missed a point.
Can we have debate on this?
Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi - Mahatma Gandhi was actually very much in favor of such ideas. Tragically he was killed by reactionary forces as we all know. I mean he was not around in independent India to get his thought tried out.
With Internet age, to me it is making some sense we should consider this aspect seriously and give it a thought. Perhaps it will help AP which needs great sums to develop infractructure in cities like Hyderabad.

Development of rural industries will be a boon to our economy, unfortunately our rural industrial sector today is in chaos due lack of proper under standing on business, marketing fecilities, enterpeunership, te first and foremost is driving power from government.

In my opinion, if government acts as prime mover by identifying various commodities, call it agri, tiny engineering, cottage or industrial service types. government must encourage the students to study polytechnics by starting several rural polytechnics in villeges, and take students those who have to start/own responsibility to run industries as listed above with targetted turn overs fixed by government.for example crucible industry is flourishing in Rajahmundry, handloom cloth in konaseema, cashew industry is flourishing in north andhra, mango industry could be encouraged in vizianagaram, metal utenciles,TV, radios, even fans, furniture, text books, toys, sarees, garments, leather ware, toilet items like phynile, soaps, candles, fruit juices, pickles, pickles, rice bran oils, palm oil, dals, dal powders, instant foods, fast foods.

People should be discouraged to go for jobs in cities and first of all should be councelled to stay back in villages and opt for business enterprise above political and social evils like caste, creed etc.

I think Tamilnadu is well developed in this unorganised setor and found personally in nook and corner of tamil villages flourishing with people living in peace as well as effluent.

i pray the almighty to bless all of us with courage and let gandhi's dreams come true.

I agree with the concept of rural polytechnics that generate new entrepreneurs that exploit our vast agriculture resources. The best example I can site is Girijan Cooperative Corporation(GCC). Some of their products can compete with the best from Hindustan Lever. There is a huge potential for small scale industry in food processing and currently there is a wide gap between supply and demand. But once again we need technical and managerial skills to produce , package and distribute the product. Once an MBA in rural management from Indian Institute of Rural Management, Anand used to be very popular. Now nobody talks about it. Everybody wants to be a software professional. This is where the rural polytechnics can fill the gap.

On a positive note, I see a tremendous change in the thinking of next wave of young graduates coming out of school. Even though software profession is still popular, I also see growing ambition of having their own business and see the signs of emergence of new class of young entrepreneurs. My guess is we will see an exponential growth in small scale industries in both rural (agri oriented) and urban (service oriented) areas in the coming years.
