There is demand of constructing reservoir at Ichchampally on river Godavari for serving drought hit Telangana. But water level at Ichchampally is not adequate to construct reservoir. In time of Telugu Desam they fooled people by saying that they will construct lift irrigation project at Devadula. Engineers said that Devadula village is not right location for constructing lift irrigation project. Telugu Desam lost in elections. Now Congress party is in power. What decision do Congress take about this case? Will they construct Ichchampally project or Devadula lift irrigation project or some other?

Devadula project benefits low: Das
Hyderabad, Dec. 28: Central Water Commission has decided to study the cost-benefit ratio of Godavari Lift Irrigation Scheme (Devadula) in Warangal district, in the wake of recent observations of the union water resources department that the benefits of the project is low. CWC chairman S.K. Das, who is on a three-day visit to the State, will visit the Devadula project site on December 30, interact with the officials and contractors and work out the cost-benefit details of the project.
It may be mentioned that union water resource minister Saifuddin Soz, during his recent meeting with irrigation minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, observed that the Devadula project did not serve much purpose, compared to the cost to be incurred on it. Mr Lakshmaiah, however, argued that the project is a lifeline of Telangana. The visit of the CWC chairman is a fallout of the whole situation.
Mr Das would also inspect the works on Alisagar and Gutpha lift irrigation schemes in Nizamabad and also Sripadasagar project in Karimnagar on December 29. There is a complaint from National Thermal Power Corporation that the release of water from Sriramsagar project into Gutpha and Alisagar LI schemes would deprive the Ramagundam super thermal power station of water, which would in turn affect the power generation.
Mr Das would look into the complaints and sort out the issue, department sources said.
On December 31, he would have a wrap-up meeting with the top officials of the department. Secretaries and chief engineers concerned would assist him during his tour, sources said.

- I feel we should observe the issue of irrigations projects more keenly to find solutions to one of major points for separate T movement? We should try to study entire Jalayaganam, its pros and cons. This will help concentrate our energies more focussed on real issues. In matters like this CWC is very dispassionate. I’m not surprised they came up with this conclusion. There were several reports detailing how much it cost to lift the water. The conclusion was that yield on the farm would be far less than the electricity charges like what CWC has concluded. The much broader issue is that we have some topological limitations and what should be the long term direction for the development of this region.

Lift irrigations are a huge burden on the state. This arguement is further strenghtened by the CWC observations. The govt. however is going ahead apparently to appease T separatisits. You cant fight against geography in such an unsceintific manner. Irrigation needs in T may have to be met in different ways.

Again irrigation is not the only thing ot invest in. T already has a lions share of educational institutions, power consumption etc. Irrigations must fit in to the picture and not seen in exclusion of others.
