Uttarandhra Motherless child???

The railway budget presented by Lalu Prasad on Tuesday drew flak from a majority of people in the city. “The budget is disappointing to Uttarandhra. We have been demanding a separate zone with Vizag as headquarters as gross injustice is being done to the region though Waltair Division is the highest revenue earner in East Coast Railway,” said C.S. Rao of Praja Spandana.

While Kerala and Tamil Nadu were able to get their demands fulfilled, the Centre was neglecting genuine demands of the people of Vizag/Uttarandhra region. He described it as a failure on the part of the people’s representatives of the region.

Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy described the budget as ‘people-friendly’ with a human approach. He thanked Railway Minister Lalu Prasad for introducing a ‘Garib Rath’ from Vizag to Secunderabad. He noted that the demand for two other overnight trains, one each to Chennai and Kolkata couldn’t materialise due to technical reasons. He said that additional funds for AC Rail Reservation system for Vizag were in an advanced stage of consideration.

The huge allocations made to Bihar and Maharashtra makes the budget look like as though it is meant for those States and not the country. The meagre allocation to the State indicates the failure of the MPs from the region, he said.

Bharateeya Janata Party city unit president P.V. Narayana Rao said that Waltair Division has become a ‘motherless child’ ever since its merger with East Coast Railway. The population of Vizag has increased in geometric progression and people of all states are residing in the metro. Except the ‘Garib Rath’, that too thrice a week, no other train has been introduced nor any other facility promised for the division. Despite the huge revenue contributed by the division, there is no budgetary allocation for its development.

East Coast Railway Shramik Union additional general secretary D. Shaleel said that the Railway Minister had ignored the interests of railway employees though the concessions extended to students and provision of jobs to licensed porters was a welcome step. She also deplored the poor allocation to ECR in the budget.

TDP Spokesperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari has said the Railway budget meted out a raw deal to Andhra Pradesh in general and Uttarandhra in particular.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, she said though represented by a Union Minister and a former Chief Minister from Vizag and a large number of MPs and eight union ministers from the State, the railway budget offered nothing much to its people. She said the two leaders should try to get some changes to benefit the State.

VISAKHAPATNAM: East Coast Railway’s (ECoR) biggest coach maintenance complex would be ready for inauguration in June as the Rs.10.45-crore third phase of construction in the 15-acre SAIL siding (Marripalem) is nearing completion. This project is one of the election promises of the local politicians.

Sources said nearly 70 per cent of the work to construct fourth and fifth pits in the third phase is over and the railway is hopeful of completing the project as per schedule. While the concreting of the fourth pit is over, earth work for the fifth pit is nearing completion.

First phase


The third phase was taken up early this year. When completed, this coaching complex could cater to the railway’s requirement for another 20 years as rakes of up to 30 trains could be cleaned and maintained per day here. As many as 400 persons of railway’s mechanical department would be working in three shifts in this complex.

Though work on the coaching complex project, mainly to take care of washing, cleaning, attending to small repairs of rakes of trains that originate from Visakhapatnam, began as early as 2001 during the period of then Minister of State for Railways Bandaru Dattatareya, due to various problems it moved at a snail’s pace. The Rs. 6.18-crore first phase consisted of two pits and the second phase (Rs.7.2 crore) one pit. In the third phase, two pits (taking the total to five) would come up besides an exclusive shed for undertaking major mechanical and electrical repairs in the rakes. The shed will have huge cranes with the capacity of 120 tonnes to lift the rakes. Presently such defective rakes are being transported to Chennai or Kharagpur for repairs. Each of the concrete pit will be 620 metres long (to accommodate 26 rakes) and 2.5 metres wide with the provision 3.6 metre broad washing area. The pits have been put up with the depth of 2 metres so that the maintenance staff could easily walk beneath the rakes to check for any defects in the mechanical and electrical system in the undercarriage. Another feature of phase-III is the construction of another overhead water tank (2.25 lakh litres) – for storing recycled water, and a water recycling plant (capacity 4 lakh litres per day). This coaching complex would be a boon to Vizag as hitherto the coaches were washed on the sides of the existing station (now platform no.6) and moreover, long trains could not be washed at one go as the pit was not long enough. The rakes were divided into two or three parts and then washed which was time consuming and due to this there were instances of delayed departure of trains like Godavari, Janmabhoomi, Ratnachal, Link and Tirumala express.

IT COMES WITH THE PEOPLE ONLY ,WE NEED TO PROTEST AGAINST IT THEN ONLY THEY REALISE


ITS REALLY A BAD MOVE OF DIVERTING TRAINS VIA DUVVADA


GUYS FOR MVP vizayanagarm and duvvada will take same time.....

atleast they should stop trains at NORTH SIMHACHALAM which is good if we introduce some buses to north simhachalam it will be very good ,we have road fecility also upto railway station ......


Actually unofficially trains are stoping at NORTHSIMHACHALAM for DRIVER CHANGE , y dont they make it official

atleast we should think about it

Attack on Andhra candidates condemned

VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for Commercial Taxes Konathala Ramakrishna on Thursday condemned the attack on candidates from Andhra region at Kirandul who had gone there to appear for a recruitment test conducted by the NMDC. The candidates returned here on Wednesday after they were beaten up by some locals and their hall-tickets were destroyed.

Mr. Ramakrishna said this was an inhuman act and promised to take up the matter with the Central government and the Ministry of Mining.

He recalled that in the past candidates from Andhra area were beaten up and sent back when they had gone to Bhubaneswar to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board test. Then the P.V. Narasimha Rao government changed the RRB venue for candidates of this region to Secunderabad.

The Minister said he was not even aware that the Government proposed a veterinary college here when reporters asked him if the college was also being shifted to Kadapa. The State government was establishing universities, medical colleges, engineering colleges and other important educational institutions in different parts of the State to ensure regional balance, Mr. Ramakrishna said.
