AU was started in ninteen twenties in viziawada in a small building but the rulers at that time thought viziawada is not the correct place for such an institution and shifted it immediately to vizag.

Ofcourse what can you do ? Probably it goes against your caste interests to oppse YSR even though the decision was brazenly wrong.

MLC faults decision on varsity

Special Correspondent

Makes an appeal to parties, people’s organisations to launch stir

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Move to shift proposed varsity from city termed unfair

Takes a dig at Ministers from the region

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

VISAKHAPATNAM: M.V.S. Sarma, member of the Legislative Council from north Andhra belonging to Communist Party of India (Marxist), on Sunday flayed the State Cabinet decision to shift the proposed Central university at Visakhapatnam in the XI Plan to Cuddapah.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the decision to shift it to Cuddapah under the pretext that 700 acres of land was not available in Visakhapatnam was ‘unjust’.

“On the one hand, the Government is acquiring thousands of acres of land for setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZ) but says that there is no land available to the proposed university which does not make sense. Is there any official report from Visakhapatnam district to this effect? If so, it should be made public. Why did the Government, which always gives a lot of publicity to all decisions taken by the Cabinet, failed to make a public announcement with respect to the shifting of the varsity from Vizag to Cuddapah?,” he asked. Mr. Sarma also felt that in case they thought a Central university was needed in Cuddapah, they could have got another sanctioned by the government. But it was unfair to shift it from Vizag after the Centre came forward to establish it here, he pointed out.

‘Discriminatory’

He also remarked that it was a matter of shame that the three State ministers from North Andhra who claim to be key members of the Cabinet had failed to question the wrong done to the region and felt they owed an explanation to the people here. “Even in the case of IIT and super speciality hospital, the State government has adopted a discriminatory policy. I demand that at least now, it should reconsider its decision and allot the central university to Visakhapatnam. I appeal to all political parties and people’s organisations to respond to the issue and start a movement to get the university established here,” he stated.

This is good work. Thanks for posting the addresses.
We should not neglect this. We should fight against any insjustice done to Vizag. How long can we be quite, after being at the receiving end for more than 2 decades. The successive governments have been cheating vizag. And YSR's Govt has gone ahead and sold Vizag's land. Vizagites till yesteday have been deprived of their rights and demans of their needs, but today, the story has turned worse with the govt decided to rob the city . The injustice has crossed its tolerable limits. Let us now do something for the motherland.
What are our MLA's and MP's doing. I have not head of atleast the opposition parties raising their voice against this injustice (execpt M.V.S. Sarma).

Press for Central varsity in city: MLC

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: MLC of north Andhra graduates constituency M.V.S. Sarma urged the MPs, MLCs and MLAs of north coastal Andhra districts to make efforts to establish a Central University in Visakhapatnam.

Mr. Sarma, who is also Deputy Floor Leader of Progressive Democratic Front in Legislative Council, addressed individual letters to all MPs, MLCs and MLAs from Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts reminding them that the State Government changed the proposals made by the Centre to establish a Central University in the city and shifted it to Kadapa, on the plea that sufficient land was not available.

Since the decision was not proper, the people’s representatives of the region irrespective of their party affiliations must intervene and make the State Government to change its decision and ensure that the Central University was established in the city, Mr. Sarma said.

Government flayed

Meanwhile, the district committee of SFI strongly criticised the Government for shifting the Central University to Kadapa. This was against the promise made by the Central Ministers and the Chief Minister. Local Ministers, MPs and MLAs did not protest, as they did not want to displease Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy.

SFI plans stir

The SFI would launch an agitation on this issue, its district secretary P. Appalanarsa said in a statement.
