| Running is one of the many tests that aspirants to the Police force are supposed to undertake. The Police Constable selections in Andhra Pradesh is no different. Unfortunately, there have been increased number of deaths during the on going police constable selection's 5 kilometer runs. Your comments... _________________ I like Tomorrow...

| It is simply a pattern of utter disregard for human life that our babus got used to. It doesn't need rocket science to figure out that it is extremely dangerous to run 5km under hot sun in the middle of summer. I don't know how the track was equipped in terms of water supplies, but I can picture the environment where dignity of recruits is the last thing that worries the officers.
For healthy humans, ability to run is just a matter of practice. When I grasp for breathe in the first game of Tennis after a summer break of just two months, I know how it is like, not doing an exercise. But with in few weeks you get your stamina back. Not able to run is not a permanent disability but other health issues are. They can find those issues - the objective of this test - without going to extremes. There are millions of people in India struggling for survival, and exercise is the last thing they have in mind. Let the police academy make fitness a priority during their training period, and judge the candidates ability, not just during entry but through out their career. Let the fat officers lead by example. |

Very well put Ved. I can confirm you views by what I have seen on TV during womens "Race".
Many girls were runing barefoot. Cant the babus say that this will not be allowed or take measures to provide shoes on rent?
The moment the race was on the girls were sprinting. You may sprint for 100m or 200m but you may not sprint for 5 km in hot sun. Looks like no guidance was provided to them that they need to pace their running. absolute callousness is the likely reason. |
