Convenor of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and former Defence Minister George Fernandes has said that the movement for separate Telangana to be launched by various organisations under the banner of ‘Telangana Sadhana Samyuktha Vedika’ from October 2 would be the final struggle to achieve the goal.

He stressed the point at a meeting organised by Telangana Sangharshana Samithi (TSS) here on Sunday.

The vedika, an umbrella body of 27 Telangana organisations, will be led by veteran leader Konda Laxman Bapuji.

Earlier, Mr. Fernandes told a news conference that the ruling Congress had repeatedly deceived the people of Telangana after promising them a separate State. It took the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) into confidence by giving its leaders ministerial posts but pursued its own policy, he said.

He said the people were aware of the commitment of NDA to separate Telangana. The BJP and other constituent parties of NDA agreed to the creation of the State but it was the Congress, which is creating obstacles, he alleged.

Asked what prevented non-Congress parties in Parliament from coming together to secure Telangana as they did in blocking the nuclear deal with US, Mr. Fernandes said the Congress and CPI (M) played their own games. There was no coherence in their public posture and actions. At a separate function, Mr. Fernandes launched ‘Towards a better mankind’, a monthly journal edited by Keshav Rao Jadhav. A journal with the same title was brought out in the past by noted socialist Ram Manohar Lohia.
