I read in one news paper that ONGC and GAIL are are trafficking valuable oil and gas from Konaseema and they are not spending even single penny for development of Konaseema. Mining bauxite with new technology generates less pollution. But Jindal company did not specify what kind of technology they are using. _________________ Sarangadhara Yerramreddy |

jindal alluminium plant is coming up in sabbavaram village near vizag and not coming in agency areas. Bauxite ore mining is being taken up agency near araku and anathagiri, by APMineral development corporation Ltd. Already our maoist breathern under the name of NGOs like samatha are trying to stop this project with their crocadile tears on tribals. But their crucked plans doesnot work as Jindal has already started work on the project and government has cleared a rehabilitation package for effected including training to tribals who can be extracted in to plant for employment. _________________ STATESMAN |

Jindal finalises location
Jindal South West Aluminium Limited (JSWAL) has announced the shifting of its alumina refinery project to S. Kota in Vizianagaram district from Sabbavaram near here. The Jindal management which also attended a public hearing held by the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board in the city some time back for locating their Rs. 4,000-crore refinery at Sabbavaram, shifted the project site due to heavy appreciation of real estate prices on the city suburbs.
We want to make it very clear that we are not into real estates. The district authorities sought the land sought by us at Sabbavaram at Rs. 20 lakhs an acre which we found not viable for our project. In S. Kota, the extent of private land involved and displacement of people is minimal," JSWAL Director (business development) Sandeep Gokhale informed media representatives. The refinery will have a capacity of 1.4 million tonnes per annum with a 90 MW co-generation plant.
The smelter, which is likely to be located in Khammam district due to close proximity to coal mines, will have a production capacity of 4.2 million tonnes per annum. The smelter will involve an investment of Rs. 5,000 crores.Mr. Gokhale said that as per the MoU signed with the State Government, the AP Mineral Development Corporation would supply them bauxite ore after obtaining all the clearances. The refinery would come up in 36 months from the date of getting forest, environment and other clearances.
The Jindal management has already identified approximately 1,300 acres in and around Boddavara in S. Kota mandal. The ore will come through closed conveyer. There will be a 50-km rail linkage up to Semiliguda. As Araku has 60-million tonne deposit, the raw material from that side will be enough for 15 to 18 years. Mr. Gokhale claimed that 87 per cent of land identified by them belonged to the Government and only about 50 families would be displaced. _________________ STATESMAN |

| Now Govt is creating a motion picture highlighting how Bauxite excavation is going to tribes and how the environment is protected. As long as the picture brings out truth (I expect experts scrutinize it) it is welcome development and help assuage concerns from tribals. |
