I wonder what benefits are gonna be there to AP by hosting a petro chemical complex. Not plenty of jobs for sure. Petro chemical industry is one of the most automated. Will it lead to promotion of any ancilliary units ? I doubt!

It is true that Petrochemical process is highly automated, but due to the scale of its operations it employs large number of employees. It may not be the same as steel industry for a given output but the value of its output is very high. As you said, then you need to account for all ancillaries from Fertilizers to Paints. For instance the Shanghai Chemical industry park employs 62,000 employees. The Chinese Chemical industry was almost non-existent in 70s. Now it employs 3.2 million people, mostly along east coast from Tianjin to Shanghai and all the way down to Guangdong near Hong Kong.

The other best example of employment and economic output revolved around Petrochemical industry is Houston, Texas, the 4th largest city in US. The similarities with Houston are very striking. It has the largest port and near by gas-oil reserves in Gulf of Mexico, like we have Vizag port and KG basin. The growth of Houston was entirely due to the development of Petrochemical industry based on discovery of oil in Gulf of Mexico and the urgency created by Arab oil embargo in 70s.

(BTW, if we imagine the map of Texas as India since they look alike, Houston is located right on our east coast.)
