Southern Online Bio Technologies Ltd sets up new Biodiesel unit

April 2: Southern Online Bio Technologies Ltd has set up a Biodiesel production unit with a production capacity of 10,000 MTPA. The unit is located in Nalgonda district of Andhra Pradesh. The plant is currently witnessing certain teething problems and commercial production is expected to begin by April-May 2007. Trial runs of the plant were initiated in Q4 of 2006. The Biodiesel produced by the Company during the trail runs met with BIS specifications and also the standards prescribed under International scales like ASTM / EN. The project was raised through a composite issue in October, 2005 when the company entered into an agreement with Lurgi Lift Sciences and their engineering partner Chemical Construction International Pvt. Ltd. for technology to manufacture Biodiesel from various kinds of oils like Jatropha oil, Pongamia oil, Rape seed oil, Tallow, Fish Oil. GTZ & BMZ (German Technology Cooperation) have provided the Company a grant Rs 2 Cr under Pvt Public Partnership in which Southern Online, Lurgi AG-Germany and GTZ are the partners. The grant has been routed through a nodal agency, International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT)
