Court clears Greater Hyderabad plan

HYDERABAD: A division bench of the High Court on Wednesday declined to set aside the orders of the State Government seeking merger of the local bodies surrounding the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad to form Greater Hyderabad. Hyderabad would be the second "GREATER" corporation in the state after Vizag, last year Vizag became the first Greater corporation in the state. The bench granted a limited relief to the petitioners permitting them to file objections before the Government.

The bench was closing batch of writ petitions filed by Asaduddin Owaisi and others. The State Government had issued notices to 12 municipalities and 8 gram panchayats around Hyderabad asking them as to why they should not be abolished to merge them into proposed Greater Hyderabad.

These orders of the State Government were challenged on various grounds. The main contention was that the area would be so large that it could be unviable for the status of a local body. It was further contended that the gram panchayats and municipalities would lose their identity defeating the very special local self-rule.

we should welcome the thought of making hyderbad to greater hybad
extending the present geographical limits of the region.

I don't know if this initiated with any cruel intentions ?

With the formation of Greater Hyd, I belive its advantage Hyd and its surburban areas. Localities with poor infrastructure like Malkajigiri, Kapra and others will get good roads, drainage systems. Hyd will tend to get more funds from center, population of Hyd will increase to around 50L.

The only dis-advantage for middle class is, they would see a increase in land prices and taxes. But that can be managed with clever administration by the commissioner and other authorities just as they did in case of Greater Vizag.

Hi to all, Iam a new member to this group. Iam really very happy that hyderabad is given the greater status. It is only next after Mumbai, Kochi, Noida and Visakhapatnam. Bangalore and Chennai would soon be greater corporations. Well done hyderabad, all the best.
