VISAKHAPATNAM: As part of efforts to project Visakhapatnam as an ideal destination for IT after Hyderabad, a `Silicon Valley' type zone will be developed on the city outskirts in an area of some 300 acres.
``The exclusive zone will have world-class infrastructure.
As several big players are approaching us for land, we want to allot them space in future at one place keeping in view the criticism over location of some units at Buddhist sites,'' a senior official said.
The zone is expected to attract investments worth Rs.200 crores to Rs.300 crores in the next two to three years.
Fast-track approvals will be given to entrepreneurs with two years' experience with a workforce of 200 in their units.
Site to be finalised
Sources told The Hindu that senior officials from Hyderabad will visit the city to finalise a site for the zone after the Visakha-I Assembly bypoll.
Officials of the Information and Communication Department feel that incentives will go a long way in wooing IT players to the proposed zone.

| | I think IT centers are being established in multiple places at Vizag: Rushikonda, TB Hospital area, SEZ granted area. Now where is this 300 acres Silicon Valley Type setup? At SEZ area or somewhere? Rushokonda does n't have any valley type land leftover for companies. I think they are using the hilltops as the plain land was auctioned a decade or so ago for the residential places. is that right? |
