What china has achieved with free market economy, lifting the lives of one billion people in record time, dwarfs entire Stalin’s achievements (I’m being generous here). The Chinese experiment proves what we need is pragmatism, not blind ideology. Because no single ideology is successful in solving human problems. Although the jury is still out there in judging Chinese experiment, it already validated the power of free market economy. In fact free market economy with autocratic govt seems to be a deadly combination. I’m sure humans will invent many more ideologies only to be replaced by new ones from later generations. However, it is only pragmatism, applying different ideologies to suit their current needs, that will distinguish winner from loser.

Stalin provided employment to all unemployed people in Russia when he was in power. At the same time, western countries used to have 20 to 30% unemployment. Now also around 5% unemployment exists in western countries. In past, most of the Russians were illiterates. Stalin made 99% of Russians educated. Why literacy rate in China is just above 82%? Stalin purged Trotskyite revisionists. Why didn't Mao purge Dengxiaoping style revisionists?
