| Jayaprakash Narayan was on TV9 tonight with Ravi prakash and was sharing his views on power (electricty) problems in our state
One nice ideas was on having a Metering system at all levels - Sub Station, Transformer including in Government offices. He says that we need to know where the electricty is wasted.
I have seen many cases where Government offices do not manage power properly. I have seen many times when AC's and computers were left on even after work. _________________ I like Tomorrow...

| According to one study in Haryana the amount of power used by agriculture was overstated by some 35%. The study charges that most of the power is wasted in terms of theft and pilferage. The only way to gauge this accurately and account for it, is to have meters set up at every consumer. However, this may deter theft but it cannot eliminate the demand permanently. Eventually the demand will catch up.
What we need is more power generation capacity. Currently we have installed capacity of 11000 MW but we only generate about 6500MW. The biggest shortfall is coming from Hydel power where govt is not willing to release the water for fear of water shortages for Kharif season. They are in catch 22. Either we need to increase the source of hydel powers and reduce the dependency on Srisailam and Nagarjun Sagar that are critical for farming or we need to generate more thermal and gas power. I don’t see concrete steps in either direction. In fact I see the problem becoming more acute in coming years. |

| | In a recent attack on YSR, the Hyderbad brothers, PJR and MSR accused the main reason why Srisailam water is being saved from generating power is to save the water for Potureddipadu Head regulator as it cannot supply water below certain level. Currently both Srirsailam and NS are operating far less than the capacity. The hydel power generation yesterday was mere 23 MU against the full capacity of 75 MU. If you recall these two are very vocal against the GO 170 and GO 206. Govt believes, and JP concurred, that water is more valuable than Power to the extent govt is planning to buy Rs 600 crores worth of electricity from West Bengal. Do you agree with this conservative approach from govt OR you want them to increase hydel power? |

| I think I will go for the conservative approach adopted by the govt. To guarantee free power to the farmers I think govt has no choice other than to buy power and at the same time guarantee water for agriculture. If steps are not taken to produce more power then ppl have to contend with load shedding in cities and villages.
One thing I dont understand is that why are the farmer suicides still high infact even higher than the suicides during prev govt administration? Is the free power just on papers or is it being implemented at ground level? If it is implemented then what did the implementation of free power achieve with so many farmer suicides in the state? Can somebody who has any statistics come forward to explain the above unfortunate phenomena? |
