VIJAYAWADA: The leakage of second-year MBBS examination papers a few weeks ago has now sparked a controversy in Dr. N.T.R. University of Health Sciences (DNTR-UHS) here.

Employees' association leaders said at a press conference here on Sunday that all staff members of the examination wing had been on mass casual leave since the past one week in protest against what they termed `discriminatory attitude' of top university officials.

When second-year MBBS papers in microbiology and social preventive medicine subjects were leaked, the UHS officials took immediate steps and replaced the papers with a new set to continue the examinations. But the subsequent developments caused heartburn among the staff.

Though the case was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), some unsavoury incidents took place and the observations made by a senior official in internal meetings led to the controversy.

The senior official is alleged to have blamed two to three staff members of the examinations wing for the leakage of the papers. After the observation was made at the internal meeting, the staff members started sensing trouble that they would be made scapegoats in the whole episode and decided to express their protest.

Employees' association leaders found fault with the top officials and demanded that an inquiry be conducted to bring out the facts. Employees' Association president K. Narasimha Rao said that the process of sending examinations papers was a very confidential affair.

"We will not keep silent if innocent employees are harassed," Mr. Rao added.
