| Chilkur gets hundi back
Hyderabad, March 29: The hundi system will be reintroduced at the Chilkur Balaji temple on the city outskirts, and the temple will partially come under the purview of the endowments department. These, and a slew of measures, were announced by endowments minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy after a detailed official review by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy here on Wednesday. The decision to install the hundi was taken following a request from sections of devotees who had no other way of paying obeisance. “The temple was under the endowments department since 1966, but it never interfered in the day-to-day affairs.
There was a hundi system in the past, but it was removed few years ago. Now, after the High Court judgment, the government was forced to appoint a trust board and inquire into the alleged irregularities,” he said. The government has also decided to amend the Endowments Act to recategorise the temples based on annual income. The meeting also decided to auction endowments lands, especially in municipal limits, to save them from encroachments. |
