Dr YS Raja Sekhara Reddy's government is giving high priority for constructing irrigation projects. Irrigation projects can also prevent floods. Irrigation projects control flow of river water and divert the water through canals. Diverting river water through canals reduces possibility of floods in river flow areas.

Even small rivers cause floods in our state. Rivers Nagavaly and Vamsadhara in Srikakulam district are best examples for it.
