| Government should dig fish ponds and every village\hamlet and they should be leased to private individuals. Pond fishing occupation is not much seen in our state. River fishing is seen in river flow areas but river fish are not transported to all the areas. Fishing occupation must be raised in our state by digging fish ponds at every village hamlet. They should be leased to private individuals for annual contract agreement. Government should also dig fish ponds in unused lands so that unused lands can be made use for revenue. _________________ In India rich people become more rich and poor people become more poor. | Do we really need to have Ponds for fishng? We have the longest coastal line in the country and two long rivers, yet our fishing industry is less developed. One problem for Pond fishing that invariably comes to my mind is pollution. I don’t know the stats in India but in developed countries the probability of mercury poisoning is relatively high in local lakes and streams due to industrial pollution. This inspite of the fact that use of mercury is being eliminated in developed countries. Where as there is no such regulation in India. For instance, India is the leading producer of mercury thermometers.

| Sea fish is costlier than river fish and pond fish. Sea fish wealth is also depleting. Many sea fishermen of our state are migrating to other states by financial reasons. In fishing harbours of northern coastal Orissa, we can see lot of fishermen migrated from Andhra Pradesh. They mainly belong to Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts. _________________ Nakkalagedda Surya Chandra Reddy |
