Jandhyam(Sacred thread)

Generally brahmans and vysyas wear jandhyam(sacred thread). Any hindu can wear jandhyam but i have seen only brahmans, vysyas and few people of other castes wearing jandhyam. We belong to tribal community. Some of my relatives also wear jandhyam. But many people think practice of wearing jandhyam is only for brahmans and vysyas. Sacred religious practices should not be limited for specific castes. So every hindu man should wear jandhyam.

I too wear jandhyam even i am neither brahman nor vysya. Every true hindu must wear jandhyam.

Based on your last name it is possible that you are a Kamma as we know Nadendla Bhaskar Rao. Being a kamma wearing a jandhyam means you might belong to "Kamma Brahmins" of Guntur District delta area. Is that true ? All these Kamma Bhahmins were formed to challenge Brahmins in religious matters during 1920's 30's.

Some of my friends in Guntur had their marriages done by kamma Brahmins only. Marriages done by kamma brahmins were a litle different than actual brahmins. Entire procedure is same except kamma brahmins do "AGNI SAKSHI' and some other things which I don't know. There will be a HOMAM just like north indian marriages. Even my marriage was done with a homam even in the mid summer.

But I still don't understand the reason why we have to wear Jandhyam. You shouldn't wear just because some groups are wearing that. Try to be independent. If we are not independent our thoughts will always be centered on some groups like

Pakistan always thinks about India. What they are doing we should also do. That is all India Centric foriegn policy.

My relative Markonda Venkata Rao is retired teacher who used to work in government school village Mondenkhal in Vizianagaram district. He got teacher job in ST reservation quota. Some people noticed him wearing jandhyam. They got doubt that he is brahman and got bogus ST certificate. Venkata Rao argued that he is really and ST and they are wearing jandhyam from the time of their grand fathers. Complaint was made against Venkata Rao to officers. Officers enquired about his family and relatives. Then they confirmed that Venkata Rao is really ST. Many of my relatives are wearing jandhyam from the time of their grand fathers.
