AP government has cleared Hyderabad Master plan yesterday which will last up to 2031 covering 4 districts and having 5018sq.km. Recently Visakhapatnam master plan order was given to M/s. Lea associates, a Canadian company to prepare a master plan within next 2 years for a remuneration of INR 12 .638cr. In my opinion Visakhapatnam will become bigger in size than Hyderabad as it is covering 4 districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and East Godavari which has almost 60 MLA constituencies.

Government plan is to clear Visakhapatnam master plan before next elections and make it a Metro city and capital of proposed new state leaving Hyderabad to Telangana

If Government of India clears all the projects of vizag it will automatically become a metro city. What I feel a capital city should be in a backward area like prkasham, which will help the backward regions especially weaker sections of the society. Take the case of chandigarh its population is just 10 lakhs, but it is no 1 city in cleanliness and planning. If central govt decides to divide the state, it should have one capital city in backward region, one metro city in vizag and of course life line of our people Polavaram. No body need worry about Hyderabad, once peace is returned because of its location and infrastructure like metro rail and international airport, it will emerge as global hub. We should think of out of box solutions for complicated problems like state's division

I fully agree with you Visakhapatnam does not need to capital status to develop, what all required is political will, An intentional airport in 24 hr operation, Metro rail and railway zone HQ will improve communication hiccups of Vizag and no body need worry about investments flow.. Vizag will be center of attraction and all roads leads to Vizag

This is the hornet nest that many are afraid to disturb. Regardless of how much sugar coating we do, the political manipulation is clearly evident in this proposal. On what basis Prakasam can become capital of SA when there are at least 4 districts that are most backward than Prakasam, assuming backwardness is the criteria. I got one suggestion. Instead of laboring so hard to find some reason, why don't we just openly say that since Prakasam is next to Vijayawada area that houses rich politicians and lot of real estate speculators that bought land cheaply from poor farmers of Prakasam, it is the best candidate for capital for SA. When states can be split for a gain of few seats in the next 2 years, why can't we create a state capital to compensate the impacted rich politicians and the real estate speculators who really finance the elections. What are we trying to hide?
