Hyderabad University gets Rs 18-crore German grant

Hyderabad, Sept 22

The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been sanctioned a grant of €3 million (Rs 18 crore) by German Research Foundation for joint research.

Under the grant, UoH would take up collaborate research with leading universities/institutions in Germany and would exchange faculty and students for about four and half years.

This was disclosed by Prof Syed E Hasnain, Vice-Chancellor of UoH, on the sidelines of a three-day international conference and Humboldt Kollege on interface between chemistry and biology at Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) here on Wednesday.

“In fact, UoH has been chosen for the grant for a second time in a row,” Prof Hasnain said.

Dr J.S. Yadav, Director, IICT, said the conference would pave way for identification of emerging areas for research.

HYDERABAD: Pepperdine University of California proposes to set up its campus in the state soon. A nine-member delegation from the university led by Dr Timothy M Chester met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office on Wednesday and discussed the issue with him.

According to an official press note, Pepperdine University will be set up in about 500-600 acres on Nalgonda-Warangal route. The university will invest Rs 1000 crore and will have an intake of 3000 students. It also proposes to have exchange programme between universities in the state and Pepperdine in the streams of law and engineering.

The university is one of the top 20 in the world and provides highest standards of academic excellence. The university is located on a 830-acre campus overlooking the Pacific ocean in Malibu, US, the press note added.
