For the first time in Andhra Pradesh, Govt has introduced smart cards as driver's licence card. The card has small computer chip embedded in it, like a smart credit card or EMV used in US and Europe, and stores not only the license information but other vehicles owned by the driver. It is being introduced in Hyderabad on an experimental basis. It is exciting that we are putting technology in use even better than some advanced countries.

Let us hope the experiment be made successful. Hopefully they should integrate biometric identification in the card. That is where the card will take off in a wide area of electronic commerce and other legal transactions.

Saw this in the local newspapers the other day. Hope it work make licensing process dearer for the end user.
