| Vizag and Kochi emerging IT hubs of South.
India has more outsourcing growth potential, not just in existing BPO hotspots like Bangalore, Delhi and Mumbai, but at lesser-known cities, such as Kochi and Vizag, according to a research finding. Alsbridge, the outsourcing experts, announced on Thursday that its internal research shows India has more growth potential than just the usual top picks – Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and Mumbai.
Move over the existing hotspots, lesser-known Indian cities, such as Kochi and Vizag, have the most potential to be the next big outsourcing hotspots for major international corporations. International companies can now start thinking beyond the three big cities and look at the top 10 up-and-coming cities of Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kochi, Kolkata, Nagpur, Pune, Thiruvananthapuram and Vizag. The Dallas-based firm, Alsbridge, ranks Ahmedabad as India's most attractive upstart. It's home to Gujarat University, and the local government is supporting widespread infrastructure improvements. Hewlett-Packard and Oracle are among the Western companies that have already discovered the place. These cities were chosen based on several factors including population, accessibility, education of the workforce and existing companies who have businesses in these cities.
"When most people think of India, they think of just one or two big cities like Bangalore or Mumbai," as quoted by PTI, Alsbridge CEO Ben Trowbridge said. However, the reality is that India is a very big and complex country with many cities that would be large enough to support an NFL franchise if they were in the US even beyond the next tiers that are commonly mentioned. Alsbridge believes that in the next few years, providers will consolidate and move even more of their labour to India. A report released by the company last week says the operating margins of US providers have hovered around 6 per cent over the last decade, whereas outsourcing providers in India are able to achieve operating margins up to 40 per cent.
Providers in India are also able to provide similar services as much as 25 per cent cheaper than in the US. "Some people have speculated that the future of outsourcing lies in China, but there are many challenges to be faced with this," Trowbridge said. American corporations looking to outsource in China face many obstacles such as language barriers, intellectual property and other legal issues. |

| | All this hinges on International airport. If there is one issue that can turn around this area, it is international airport, everything else is secondary. After that it doesn't matter who is in power. |

| WIPRO - Vizag Center at TBH Center might be operational by Novemeber.
WIPRO - Vizag II Center will be started at IT SEZ at Rushikonda.
Wipro chairman Azim Premji maintained that currency appreciation would not hit software exports from India, since industry had anticipated it. “The Indian currency is relatively strong and this (its strengthening) was not unanticipated.
We will have to drive productivity and get better prices. Industry is not unaware of the strengthening of the rupee. We have planned for currency rates of Rs 43.50 or so. One must ask for better prices and give more value to justify the higher prices,” Mr Premji said.
Speaking to reporters, Mr Premji outlined Wipro’s plans. “Going forward, we will continue acquisitions, having done seven in the past two years. The acquisitions we do now will be larger in size than those we have done in past couple of years.
Those were an average size of $ 25-30 million. We are now looking at acquisitions up to $200 million,” he said. He added that these would be in Europe and the US, focused on specialised expertise in domains in which Wipro operates.
The sunset clause of tax exemptions will not kick in for Wipro since it has lined up future expansion within the country in special economic zones. “In Nagpur, we will be located in an SEZ.
Our current location in Vishakapatnam is not in an SEZ since the land is not large enough but Vizag II will be an SEZ. In Kochi, we are operating in a government SEZ, and in two months, we will move to our own SEZ.
Greater Noida, where construction has just begun, is an SEZ. The land we have bought in Jaipur is in an SEZ and so is Chandigarh,” Mr Premji said. The 100-acre land allotted to Wipro in Mysore will also be converted into an SEZ in the next couple of months, he said. _________________ Sir |
