Separate Uttarandhra demanded

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: In an interesting development, which is an echo to the developments in Telangana, J.T. Rama Rao, claiming to be convener of Jai Uttarandhra, launched an indefinite fast at the Gandhi statue at the GVMC, demanding separate Uttarandhra on Sunday. The decision to go on indefinite fast was announced three days ago. But since TRS president K. Chandrasekhara Rao was arrested, Mr. Rama Rao gave up the fast but vowed to fight for the cause. According to him, the districts of North coastal Andhra had been subjected to injustice for long. The four districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam and Bhadrachalam division in Khammam district should be made a separate State, he said. Before a separate Telangana was conceded, Rs.1 lakh crore should be paid to North coastal districts as compensation and to develop these parts for five years, he said.

RDBs favoured

However, president of Praja Spandana C.S. Rao, a former IES officer, felt that separation was not the answer. He advocated formation of Regional Development Boards to ensure development of all regions in the State.

It appears to me that at least some parts of the state are realizing that the creation of separate Telanagna with Hyderabad is not an issue pertained to the people of Telanagna alone but it effects all the people of Andhra Pradesh.

Yesterday in Vizag when KCR effigy was burnt or when Mr Rama Rao carried similar competing fast for uttaranadhra and later aborted it at the arrest of KCR, the message from the people of Vizag and uttarandhra is clear – we are still committed to the original concept of visalandhra and continue our sacrifices for the welfare of one Telugu state , but if it comes to separation, please compensate us for all the sacrifices we made, and for all the neglect we were subjected to by the capital centric policies of successive governments.

I hope this awareness spreads beyond Vizag to all parts of andhra and rayalaseema.

Wether AP is devided into 2 -3 states or andhra and telangana alone, the second bigger city in AP that is Vizag must be made capital of the region minus telangana of present andhra pradesh. This should compensate the step motherly treatment meted out to it for the last 6 decades. No one is bothered wether hyderabad is made free zone or capital of telangana.
