Emerging New Nellore

Heard the news in Economic Times - MAS Holdings, one of the largest textile and apparel group in South Asia, has entered into an agreement with the state government for setting up a textile SEZ in Nellore district at an investment of $200 million.
The 750-acre park is expected to provide direct employment to 30,000 people while 45,000 people will be employed indirectly. In five years, export revenues from the park would be $500 million, according to a release on Thursday.
With the new agreement, Nellore is set to become a major apparel hub in the country. Coimbatore-based textile industry association, Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) and Chennai-based Loyal Textiles Mills have together lined up an investment of Rs 1,300 crore in the district. Vrindavan Overseas Ltd is also setting up a textile park in 500 acres in the same district at investment of Rs 500 crore.
Besides, other leading textile exporters including Sri-Lanka-based Brandix and Gokaldas are also setting up projects in the state. While Gokaldas is setting up a production facility in Nacharam near Hyderabad at an investment of Rs 25 crore Brandix is planning Rs 2,500 crore garment city in Visakhapatnam.

Krishnapatnam port development, the 4,000 watts mega power project, and other industried likely to come up in Nellore District, and the government plans to woo industries to Tada taking its proximity to Chennai, looks like Nellore is in for a big leap forward.
Nellore city needs to upgrade the railways station with more platforms, as currently most trains stop there only for few mins, due to too frequent arrivals.
Nellore also got Sriharikota the rocket launching point for ISRO. Nellore, Gudur, Naidupet, Sullurpet, Tada, and now Krishanpatnam, Nellore rightfully deserves an airport too in near future. It has some simple beauty, lying on the banks of river pennar. Maipadu beach can be developed more beautifully.
Nellore does not come in conflict with T as it is away from Godavari River, it has Chennai much closer and is quite distant from Hyderabad. Formation of T state probably makes no difference for this district which can thrive on its own. T people would soon loose claim over this beautiful area when separated.
It needs funds for roads and infrastructure development. More private participation should be encouraged, its (notably Tada) proximity to Chennai must be exploited, like TamilNadu exploited Hosur's proximity to Bangalore to build thriving industrial hub.
In next 3-5 years we see a new Nellore emerging, with a name for itself.

NELLORE : In an attempt to develop infrastructure in Nellore, the district administration is planning to rope in support of people who hail from the town and have excelled in their chosen fields across the globe.

With fund crunch seriously affecting the district administration's efforts to improve civic conditions and roads, officials had initially planned to mobilise funds by selling Government lands. But they are having second thoughts as getting approvals is turning out to be time consuming. Given this backdrop, the administration has decided to depend on the town's reputation of having the highest number of contractors, industrialists and others who have settled well all over the world. Accordingly, senior officials have begun consulting well-to-do Nellorians to develop the town at least on infrastructure front.

And their efforts have started paying dividends. A class one contractor and noted industrialist of the town has agreed to develop the busy Grand Trunk road almost on a par with roads of metros. "To begin with the road between V. R. College to Gandhi statue will be taken up in the first phase followed by other roads. Beautification of the town will also be taken up in the subsequent phase," the senior police official said.

Master plan

The industrialist has in fact indicated his preparedness to send consultants to prepare the master plan. The first phase would be completed by February 2007 as a Sivaratri bonanza, the senior official said.

Master plans and blue prints are generally for a longer term - say 10 years, 20 years etc. Everything will change by them. Hope our administrators plan well atleast for the next generation Wink

CM to set stone for apparel SEZ

Hyderabad, Jan. 14: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy will set the foundation stone for Rs 1,000-crore MAS Holdings Textiles and Garments Unit at Chintavaram under Chill-akur mandal in Nellore district on January 16. The MoU for the project was signed on December 14. It is expected to provide employment to 30,000 people in the next five yeas. The Chief Minister will also set the foundation stone for the Indus Fila garment project at Hindupur on the same day. Indus Fila is a leading garment manufacturer based in Bangalore with units at Nelamangala, Peenya and Nanjangud near Mysore in Karnataka supplying garments to global sportswear such as Nike. The proposed investment is Rs 59 crores and employment potential is about 8,000.

Later, Dr Reddy would also set the stone for the proposed Apparel Special Economic Zone Project to be taken up by the K. Raheja Group at Industrial Park, at Hindupur over an area of 350 acres. The proposed investment over five years is Rs 250 crores and projected employment generation would be around 45,000.
