Post subject: SSC revaluation fee at Rs 150

I feel that the Rs. 150 for revaluation per subject for the SSC examinations is a bit too much. While the amount would not be a big amount for those who live in towns, it is indeed a big number for many living in the rural parts of the state.

Added to this there are two additional levels of headaches.

First, the amount has to be paid in the form of a DD drawn from SBI or SBH (why only these two banks? arent the other banks nationalized banks?). Secondly, a printout of the ssc results from the internet website has to be accompanied. If you are in town, browsing centers charge Rs. 10 for internet surfing and upto Rs. 10 for printouts. In rural areas, surfind could be up to Rs. 25. While it wont take much time to get the results webpage, the browsing centers surely make a good amount ranging from Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 per printout of ssc marks.

Now from the students point of view, the total amount would be Rs. 150 + Rs. 10 (DD charges) + Rs. 10 = Rs. 170 for revaluation. This works out to be a bit too much for many families. Even after applying for the revaluation, the result is very doubtful. I met a principal of a private school few days back and he feels that there wont be much of a change in the marks when applying for revaluation. Except that in some extreme cases, a student would get passed in third class when he narrowly fell short of the desired pass mark in the only subject he failed.

i too don't hv noticed changes after revaluation. there r lot of complications for the first evaluator when the second evaluator changes the marks in revaluation.

i think it is just another revenue for govt.

True. I was aware of how Universities in general earn a lot of money this way. Looks like the Boards too are following the same fashion.

The other day I over heard some student from a private college applying for reappearing for exams even when she got 85% marks. Says she has to get 90+%. Looks like the students (and their parents) are getting too ambitious these days.

Post subject: Road accidents

When there is a *** virus or some other epidemic where dozen people die and some dozen people get sick, it is huge news for reporters and a political bonanza for opportunists.

How about dozens of people dieing every day through road mishaps? At least Virus and other epidemics are ingrained with poverty that pervades our lives and very little that our impoverished Govt can do. But these road accidents are nothing to do with poverty and more to do with ignorance, recklessness and general apathy towards safety. Can't govt do something about it? Can't they put only responsible drivers on the road? Can't they increase awareness of speeding and the consequences? Is there a concept called highway patrolling to stop and fine reckless drivers?
