It is the foolishness of Congress that is responsible for the reelection. It is no surprise that TDP is desperate to win the election as a face saving for the series of defeats handed over to them in the last 2 years. But it turned out that Congress is more desperate to win this election, a meaningless result for a party with 200+ mlas in the state assembly. I don’t know whether it is arrogance or sheer phobia towards TDP, but they have to win it with a huge majority.

The net result is that both parties distributed money and liquor as if is there is no tomorrow, all caught on video by the news media .They flouted campaigning rules with impunity. Cabinet ministers either participating in development activities or promising something is a big no-no as far as election commission is concerned. But for Congress it was their fundamental right as a ruling party.

The election commission was already peeved by the refusal of state govt to punish the former district collector Mr Praveen Prakash who fired the first shot with an ill advised move to replace the returning officer without consulting EC. Then the drama played by paravada MLA Gandi Babji is the last straw and EC couldn’t take anymore and wanted to set an example. It is about high time they did something like this. Hopefully this gives a wake up call to all of them.
