IIT in Hyderabad or at Basara???

shall we discuss on this issue? There is a big openion difference. Which is better?Hyderabad or Basara for setting up an IIT?following news shows the openion of director of vignan institutes.

As an ex B Tech student of IIT Kharagpur of the 1989 batch , I must concur with Mr. Rataiah , that I had not seen much of interaction between the Industry and the institute. However before we jump to conclusions let us examine some facts .

I was in the B Tech course where much interaction is not perhaps possible with the industry . The situation of post graduate courses was very much different , with a sizeable number of students involved in substantial interaction with industry for completion of their courses.

Research calls for visits to the industry to discuss and find out more details about the problem on hand. Further work is to be carried out the by individual / group doing the research . The whole point of calling a group of people to do research is that there is no one else around who can give a ready and suitable answer to the problem at hand . As such I do not see any advantage gained by a research group being placed in a technology hub. Typically I would expect it takes 10% of the time to identify the task to be researched , 80% to solve the problem and another 10% to show / share the research results . After the research is proven successful commercialization of the findings start which would normally be better carried out by the party which requested the research as compared to the party conduction research .

In view of the above I would STRONGLY say that Basar is a better place to do research , as long as it is equipped with good communication facilities, good labs ( which are synonymous with an IIT ) . Starting an institution like this in BASAR is ensuring that the institution gets leeway to grow to any size. We can see institutions in developed areas restraining their activities because of prohibitive cost of operations or simply because of lack of space. Quite likely the appreciation in land value in BASAR are not enough to excite some parties of the education business.

Being an Andhraite, I would certainly wish to see an IIT in my state. And definetely Basara is a good place to set it up.

One should not forgot that it is the place of Saraswati, the goddess of Education. With India having a good traditions and culture, it is high time to setup an IIT in Basara.

My openion prefers Hyderabad. For example at IIT Guwahati the main problem is faculty. No good faculty is available here. If any talented person is there he is prefering to go to IITB, or madras,etc. Quality students also prefering those which in cities. Basara wont provide good transportation. If good faculty were not there any amount you spend is a waste. Because the student must learn from the faculty available near him. Even the major institutions such as ISB,IIIT etc are being situated near by cities only. Basara is far away from the city. If you want to expand institute let it be very close villege of city. I can bet you if IIT is situated near hyderabad it will be prefered than IITGuwahati though it has infrastructure and established.
